Rockaway River
Country Club is beautifully carved into the Rockaway River Valley in
Denville and dates back to 1915 when a group of local sportsman recognized
that the beauty of the land, as it boarders the Rockaway River, was an ideal
site for a golf course. The original nine hole course was later expanded
into a par 72 18 hole family oriented golf country club, with the front nine
boarding the east bank of the river that bears its name, culminating with a
gradual change in elevation to the half-way point on the course offering
golfers a magnificent view down the Rockaway River Valley before moving on
to the 10th hole. The back nine is
carved into the natural topography of the west bank of the Rockaway River, a
bit shorter than the front name but demanding a greater degree of accuracy
from the golfer. The final hole is a challenging par 5 requiring the golfer
to hit an accurate tee shot and then a second across a stream to be
positioned for the approach shot that offers a picturesque view of the
clubhouse in the background.
The recipient of the of
the Metropolitan Golf Writers Association 58th “Club of the Year”
Award, the RRCC has been the venue for some of New Jersey’s most important
tournaments including the Dodge Open, the New Jersey Open, the New Jersey
Seniors just to name a few.
